2024 Annual Art Exhibition

Our 28th Annual Art Exhibition took place over the weekend of 11–12 May 2024, commencing with a successful preview evening. Some 240 framed paintings were on show, many of which were for sale, along with a large selection of mounted works. Well done to everyone who exhibited and congratulations to those who sold paintings. For those unable to attend or who wish another look at the many works on show, here is a selection. Swipe the image to the left or right all the photos.

Our chosen charity to benefit this year is Freewheelers EVS Riders for Life run by volunteers who out of office hours transport free of charge by motorcycle blood, pathology and microbiology specimens, patient notes, X-rays, breast milk and other medical supplies to the NHS, plus deliver every night to two local Air Ambulance bases in the SW region.

Money raised via the entrance fee to the exhibition; the raffle, the prizes being three framed paintings donated by professional artists who have this past year given painting demonstrations to our members; from sales at the refreshments table weighed down by a glorious selection of home-baked cakes and savouries made by members; a percentage from painting sales; and other donations will be presented to the charity in due course.

Delicious home-made cakes and savouries

Art sales were down on last year as were numbers through the door but the first dry and warm weekend of the year no doubt played a large part in decreased footfall as many who would normally have visited the show decided a day out more in order, and who can blame them.

Members of Frome Valley Art are grateful and give their thanks to the committee, stewards, cakebakers, and volunteers who helped make it an enjoyable if tiring weekend. Many of us are already making plans for next year’s show (precise date to be confirmed). We hope to see you there.

May 2023

Our 27th Art Exhibition took place over the weekend of 13th and 14th May 2023, with a well-attended and successful Preview Evening on Friday 12th May. With a total of 232 paintings on show plus many unframed exhibits available, the standard of work submitted was high leaving little doubt the talents of our members in this popular art group increase year on year. Many visitors expressed how impressed they were with the work on show.

Earlier this year, we lost one of our oldest members whose favourite topic to paint was mountains, particularly those in Scotland, where he had spent many happy times exploring. In tribute, a small selection of his work was also on display.

A total of forty-two paintings were sold during the weekend, with enquiries still coming in from prospective purchasers. Our chosen charity this year is the Bristol Heart Institute, which is on course to receive a generous donation from Frome Valley Art thanks to the number of visitors this year, those who took home paintings and sales from refreshments, our raffle for two excellent paintings donated by two professional artists; and gift donations.

Without the hard work put in by our artists, committee members and their assistants, the volunteers who work the on entry and sales table, the refreshments team serving tea and coffee and soft drinks and food, and not forgetting those selling raffle tickets, and members who made such delicious and delectable cakes and pastries, there would be no Frome Valley Art Show. A big thank you to everyone involved.

Exhibition News 2021

A big thank you from the team to all of you who helped to make our 25th exhibition such a success. We were unsure how it would work out but you provided paintings, help and support in buckets! Covid restriction meant we had to do things a little differently this year but some of the changes were positive. A successful exhibition meant we were able to present Southmead Research into Long Covid, our chosen charity, a cheque for £1,000, thanks to everyone’s generosity.
