Officially called the SAA Frome Valley Art Group, this popular and thriving South Gloucestershire group of over sixty hobbyist artists, founded almost 30 years ago, gathers at the Greenfield Centre in Winterbourne, for those wishing to enjoy painting in a relaxed, warm and friendly environment.
Meeting on Friday afternoons 1:30-4:00pm and Friday evenings 6:30-9:00pm, members supply their own equipment whilst we supply the tea, coffee and biscuits. Rather than an art class teaching concept, our friendly sessions take the form of unstructured “Paint Your Own”, with members doing their own thing. We support each other by sharing knowledge and expertise, offering advice, motivation, encouragement, and inspiration rather than structured lessons.
Occasionally, some of our more-experienced painters run workshops for members wishing to improve their skills in a variety of mediums including watercolour, oils, pen & wash, acrylics, pastels, drawing and sketching.

We regularly enjoy demonstrations and workshops by visiting professional artists including Gary Yeung, Steve Hall, David (DJ) Johnson, Catherine Beale, Tom Hughes, Paul Weaver, Mark Warner, Tom Shepherd, Peter Cronin, Vincent Brown, Mike Skidmore, Tim Wilmot, Barry Herniman, Mary Shaw, and Oriane Pierrepoint.
Demos by Professional Artists
Two-hour demonstrations in all mediums on portraiture, landscapes, still life, and much much more at which visitors are welcome.

Every May we hold our Annual Art Exhibition, an event held over one weekend which is always well attended by the general public and in support of local charities.

2026 Art Exibition
New members over the age of 18, whether novice, hobby artist or more experienced painters are always welcome and encouraged to join us. For those who are new to painting we can offer a little help and tutoring if required, with basic equipment (if available) during a trial membership which is free for 2 weeks. Due to the popularity of the group, there is a waiting list to join our afternoon sessions, however, we have plenty of space in evening sessions.
NOTE: We are currently our Winter break. Sessions resume on Friday 2nd January 2026.
